ABOUT NORDICA

It was in 1987, I had been living with my parents in a block of flats, when my friend from the neighbourhood, showed me a photo about a Siberian Husky. I was simply amazed of the dog, I had never seen such dog before, I thought that this is the most beautiful breed in the world. I could not forget the photo and I decided that if once I had a dog it must be a Husky. About one year later I read an article about Amulett kennel that imported Huskies to Hungary from Switzerland and from Canada. On exactly the day when me and my husband visited this kennel. It was 15th of October 1988, six puppies were born in the Amulett kennel. The breeder said that probably we must wait because the puppies from this litter are already sold. I was so disappointed that in a few days we visited two other Husky kennels that advertised puppies for sale. Well … both of these kennels had got available puppies but if I saw them first I think I would not be a breeder of Siberian Huskies now. They were so much different: they had got blue eyes, that I liked very much, but they were very thin, very poor coated, long legged pups with big donkey ears.

We realized that we must wait until we can get a puppy from the Amulett kennel.

You can not imagine how happy we were when the breeder of Amulett kennel called us and said that it seems that we can have a female puppy from their current litter. We did not mind the colour of the coat and the eyes, we wanted to have a Husky female and finally we get her. Her name was Amulett Inca, she was black and white with blue eyes and she was the 62nd Husky in Hungary. We started to show her in puppy class, and than continued with Junior class. Probably we were not enough persistent to show her at many shows to get her Championship. She won some National and some International shows, but she never become a Champion. The breeding with her was not simple either. We wanted to breed her with a nice male from Canada (Sekene’s kennel), but our determined lady barked sometimes into the face of this male, and he was too shy to try it further.  Inca was three years old when finally we managed to breed her with a gray and white male,  CH Amulett Artic whose father was a working sled dog in Germany. The result of this breeding was four puppies, three females and one male. There was a red female in this litter, Chiara Ashia of Nordica, we were so much amazed of her colour, that we decided to keep her.  We were really beginners, we did not know what to look on a puppy. Unfortunately on shows Chiara was the "always number four". She had no real faults, but there was nothing special about her.

We did two other breeding with Inca, and one with Chiara with different males. The puppies were very cute, but average. We were still at the very beginning of our learning process and it was very difficult at that time without any  books or any proper information of the breed.

Finally in 1995, in the second litter of Chiara four nice puppies were born. Again three females and one male. The father of this litter was CH Tai-Mir of Wolf Silver Grizli.  Grizli was out of 3/4 part Kontoki lines, so he had gorgeous coat, and lovely head. We were in the middle of building our family house so I could not consider at all to keep any of these babies. But fortunately at least one light red female puppy went to a home where the owner wanted to show her and later breed with her. This puppy was ICH, GRCH, JCH Exy the Eskimo of Nordica. She was the most successful Husky female in Hungary for many years with many-many winner titles. Now she is competing with the same success in veteran classes.

So based on the nice results I decided to do an other breeding with Grizli, but now with Inca. In this litter we also had a nice light red female, CH Friendly Frida of Nordica "Bonni" which we sold to someone but later bought back.  Bonnie was a very pretty lady, with a lovely temperament. She became a Champion very easily, won Club winner titles two times, but the breeding with her did not succeed...  Now Bonni is working in a sled team of a friend.

The same year we managed to get a nice male in a co-ownership. His name was Kõróka Erik "Nanook", out of Innisfree's North Nanook and ICH, HCH, ÖCH Tai-Mir of Wolf Gold Girl who was the full sister of Grizli.

It happened by an accident that our young Nanook mated Inca on the 27th day of her heat. We hoped that it will not have any result (I mean any puppies), but it had: Icy. I See You Iceflower of Nordica was born as a lonely puppy, she had no litter-mates. My first thoughts were that we will give her to someone without pedigree, because I felt ashamed that an accidental mating had happened to us, but as she developed she became a beautiful girl. I did not advertised her, I was very happy to keep her. Icy proved to be a slow maturer but than easily fulfilled the conditions of becoming a Champion. She finished her Championship with a Best of Breed title.

Unfortunately sook afther that Inca left us. She died in peace while she was sleeping in her house. We were so sad, we were not yet prepared for this moment. She is resting in our garden under the big hazel-nut bush which was her favourite place to relax. Inca, we will never forget you….

On 25th of October 1998, Icy gave us four lovely girls, two gray and two red. The father of these puppies was a nice gray male, son of Multi CH Kristari's Happy Globetrotter. We were very satisfied with these puppies and decided to keep one of them. So Love Me Do of Nordica "Kelly" stayed with us. She was an amazing puppy and had a very nice temperament. Kelly was 5 month old when we entered her into Baby class at our yearly Specialty for Northern dogs, and she became Best Baby in Show. That was the time when she started her unique career.  Kelly was just ten month old when at an International show she won in Junior Class and than came the hit: won Best of Breed title! She was just 10 month old at that time and there were also CACIB winner adult dogs entered. In the Best in Show ring the story just continued: Kelly won Junior Group winner, and Junior BIS titles, and among the adults she became Reserve Best of Group. I will never forget that day, I had been crying from happiness! And we did not stop here. At the next International Show Kelly got again Junior BIS! In every December we organize in Hungary a Champion Show where only Champion dogs can be entered. On the top of Kelly's winning serial in 1999 she got the Champion of Champions title here.

In year 2000 we continued our successes: many CAC titles, CACIB titles, Best of Breeds, Best of Groups. We entered Kelly to the Specialty where a year ago she was Baby BIS. At that time she won in Baby Class but now she proved her quality amongst the adults. She got Club winner, Best of Breed and Best in Show titles.

As a summary we entered her to 21 shows and she was judged by 18 different judges from 10 different countries and was always number 1, except two shows where she was Reserve winner.

Based on the nice results of this breeding, we decided to repeat it in 1999. This time we got 6 lovely babies, five females and one male.  One female, One Mo’ Miracle of Nordica went  to Denmark to a lovely girl who had proved that Mira is not only a beautiful show dog but also a clever and obedient friend. We kept the only male, Morris (Million Miles Away from Nordica) in our kennel. Morris also started his career very nicely, at his first show in puppy class he was Best Puppy in Show under Mrs. Alice J. Watt's (Kossok kennel) judging at our yearly Specialty for Huskies. Now he is also a Champion.

On 24th of November a new litter arrived, 3 males and two females. The father of them is a very young but very attractive male, JCH Artic Blue Explorer from the last litter of the Spanish Artic Blue kennel.  Explorer's type is matching to my dogs and my idea about Huskies very well. We were very satisfied with this litter, the puppies were showing a very homogeneous picture together. Two of these lovely babies went to an English family and two other one went to Poland. Unfortunately the two English dogs had been stolen and we never found them and one of the Polish exports had died at the new owner. We were very desperate about them. We had lost three gorgeous dogs… The only dog from that litter who gives me comfort is ICH Nike is Exploring Nordica who was doing very well and had a lot of wonderful results and some great offspring also. But Nike also left us too early... he was hit by a car at the age of four...

Finally in 2002 we had arrived to the point to breed our pride, Kelly. We mated her with her grandfather CH Kristari’s Happy Globetrotter in the hope that we will strengthen the certain qualities that we managed to improve. Our wish had fulfilled. Four lovely pups arrived, two boys and two girls however the red boy was too weak to survive. This was the first puppy death in our kennel and it was very difficult to accept it. The other three pups grown up as wonderful adults. We had kept a female CH, JCH Oh Sweet Victory of Nordica - Neekka who had brought a lot of joy, success and happiness to us. She was only two years old but she already won two times the Champion of Champions title and got also Vice European Champion title in Bratislava. Her litter sister, CH, JCH One in a Million of Nordica is also a very beautiful girl and follows Victory in the show rings.

However we felt that we had done a lot of improvement on our dogs since our first dog, Inca, we felt that it is necessary to get some fresh blood into our breedings.  We had imported a lovely little bitch from Olivier Schimpf’s kennel. Her name is Oumiak’s The Dream is On and we call her April.  She had brought us a lot of fun. She is a very happy dog with lovely temperament.

A new litter was born in March 2003 with two boys and two girls. Their mom was I See You Iceflower of Nordica and their dad was Wild Wild West of Explorer (Artic Blue parents). They are now three years old  and three of them are champion title holders with great type and movement.

In 2004 we had big plans to make true: we mated Neekka in France with a young not really shown but in my eyes a very promising male. His line matched very much our wishes. We wanted a litter with a firm top line, great angulations, pretty head and gorgeous movement and healthy. We were excitedly sit next to Neekka in the whelping box when the time came. Unfortunately soon it turned out that she needs help. We run with her to the vet who had done a ceasarian. Unfortunately only one pup survived: HGRCH, HCH, HJCJ BISS Russian Roulette of Nordica - Phoebe.  When I got her in my hand I had tears in my eyes and I had been thinking of how unlucky I am. But since then every time I look at Phoebe I think how lucky I am!!!

Phoebe is two years old now but proved her quality as a baby (BABY BIS) as a puppy (PUPPY r. BIS, Eurodogshow winner puppy), and as junior also with three Junior BIS titles. Entering the adults competition she won BISS (Best in Show Specialty) in 2006 plus she was class winner at the World Dog Show in Poznan. She is a great mover, a real eye catcher and a wonderful pet.

In 2007 we managed to bring into the country an adult American Champion male - Kaila's Rouge Commando - alias "Stich". With him we wanted to introduce a completely new line to our breeding program. Stich proved to be not only a great show dog and a good stud dog but also a wonderful pet. He is so kind, so sweet that he took all our heart.

He had produce three litters for us, quality is exceeded our expectations. Meet around the show rings our new generation, Tinkerbell, Sarah, Theo, Vegas, Vannabe, Arni, Chain, William etc.

In the past 20 years we've bred more than 60 Huskies, a lot of them are Hungarian Junior Champions, Hungarian Champions, Hungarian Grand Champions, Interchampions, Junior Club Winners, Club Winners, Top Husky of the Year  '96 , '97, ‘98, '99 and 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006  etc. On the other hand, we are equally proud of all our Nordica huskies either they are successful show dogs or working sled dogs, or just plain pets. We are not a big kennel where lots of puppies born, we only have one or very rarely two litters per year.  First and foremost we are breeding for ourselves. For us it is more important that the dogs we bred are healthy, close to the standard, able to work and have their good homes. We are trying to keep our numbers small so that each dog can get adequate attention and trainings. Our dogs are free in the garden we do not like to keep dogs in crates, we are only using the crates to separate females in their seasoning periods and also the puppies, to provide them safe place. We put a lot of efforts into puppies’ socialization. By the time our puppies leave us they have been exposed to a wide variety of experiences to give them a solid start in their new lives.

Our breeding stock is checked and free from any hereditary diseases. Although it is not the rule of the Hungarian Kennel Club, I believe that responsible breeders should test all their breeding stock.

I am completely involved with Siberians, they aren’t for everyone but were the perfect choice for me. They are my best friends who are always happy when we meet. Whenever I am sad or depressed I just go and play with them or simply sit among them and watch them playing. I am 100% sure that there will always be Siberians around me; they are a lifelong love for me. Finally I would like to greet all the Husky people all over the world, and wishing them luck and lot of joy with their dogs. I congratulate them for choosing this wonderful, unique breed, the Siberian Husky.
